If you are a prospective employee from abroad who was offered a position in the United States, you will need to apply for a valid work visa, such as an H-1B, L-1 intercompany transfer, or TN visa (for citizens of Canada and Mexico). Your employer may also wish to sponsor you for a green card – a permanent employment visa.  The employment-based preference categories are for sponsoring an employee for an employment-based green card are divided into five preference categories. All categories, except for EB-1, require a labor certification from the Department of Labor.
