Diaz Jr.

Andres Diaz Jr. joined Minsky, McCormick & Hallagan, P.C. in 2019 as an associate attorney. Andres practices family-based immigration and removal defense. Prior to joining our firm, Andres practiced family-based immigration, removal defense, criminal and family law in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.

Andres’s passion for immigration law comes from his own experience as an immigrant. Born in Mexico and raised in a small village, Andres immigrated to the United States through his father, a migrant farm worker who was granted amnesty in the 1980’s. His family settled in a small town with a growing Hispanic community in Northwestern Illinois, where Andres helped other immigrants as an interpreter and translator.

The first of his family to graduate high school, Andres went on to graduate with honors from Illinois State University and relocated to Ohio to attend the University of Akron School of Law on a full scholarship. During law school, Andres interned with Community Legal Aid’s Immigration Division and externed with the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. He worked for Akron Law’s Inmate Assistance Program and was a student advocate at Akron Law’s Immigration and Human Rights Clinic. Andres won the clinic’s first ever asylum case, helping a detained Central American woman fleeing gang based persecution on account of membership in a particular social group.
