On April 7, 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the H-1B cap has been met for the 2016 fiscal year. USCIS will now process all of the petitions received within the filing period, which ends today, and place those petitions in a computer generated lottery. The U.S. master’s degree lottery of 20,000 will be completed first. Those petitions not selected in the U.S. master’s lottery will then be placed in the general lottery of 65,000. USCIS has not announced when the lottery will be conducted, as it depends on how long the intake process will take. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them. Until then, we recommend reviewing alternative options to the H-1B.
