Margaret H. (Peggy) McCormick, founder and principal of the immigration law firm Minsky, McCormick & Hallagan, P.C., has been named one of the top 100 Leading Lawyers in Illinois by Leading Lawyers magazine.

Ms. McCormick was named one of Illinois’ Top 100 Women Business Lawyers, one of the Top 100 Women Consumer Lawyers, and an Illinois Leading Woman Lawyer in Immigration Law. The selections announced in the March 2015 issue of Leading Lawyers Magazine, were based on the results of thousands of contacts with Illinois lawyers asked about which of their peers they believe comprise the top lawyers in the state. Only those lawyers most often recommended qualified as Leading Lawyers.

The selection of leading lawyers by Leading Lawyers magazine consists of four phases. It first sends out a survey to every lawyer listed in Sullivan’s Law Directory, asking the question that if a family member or friend needs legal help and you can’t take the case, which lawyers would you recommend within your area of law or geographic region. Phase two takes place after surveys are returned with nominations, at which point discussions are conducted by mail, phone, fax and e-mail with the lawyers most often nominated. The information from the first phase and other information sources are used to determine the most highly regarded lawyers within each of 105 practice areas.

In phase three of the process, lawyers who receive the most nominations in the survey are pre-selected for membership. In addition the ethical standing of each selectee is verified with the state’s Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. The final phase of the selection process is review of the selectees by the Leading Lawyers 374 member Advisory Board. Once approval is received from the Advisory board, the pre-selectees become Leading Lawyers.

Ms. McCormick has been active in immigration law for more than 30 years. She is a Past National President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), a national bar association of over 11,000 immigration lawyers (1997-98), and was also Past President of the Board of Directors of the American Immigration Law Foundation (now the American Immigration Council), a national organization established to conduct research on the impact of immigration and to advance fundamental fairness and due process in U.S. immigration laws.

In addition, Ms. McCormick has been rated at the highest level by numerous prestigious publications that evaluate professionals, including Woodward/White’s Best Lawyers in America in the Immigration Law category since 1992; International Who’s Who of  Professionals since 1995, International Who’s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, since 1997; and Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers (rated AV “Very High to Preeminent” since 1988).

Ms. McCormick is a Member of the Board of Directors for the Federal Bar Association, Chicago Chapter and currently holds the office of Immediate Past President. She is also currently serving as Secretary for the Federal Bar Association’s Immigration Law Section. She has been an adjunct Professor of immigration law at Loyola University School of Law since 1986.
